Snowdon Summit Value £92k

Arguably the highest commercial building in the UK, the café just below the summit of Snowdon underwent redevelopment during 2008. Hapgoods were brought in during 2007 at an early stage of the design, to develop the wall Oak panelling concept into a finished product that could withstand the extremes of humidity and temperature prevalent on the mountain but still provide an attractive durable appearance. Various samples were prepared and left in high level huts on the mountain over the winter of 2007 to more fully establish the effects of humidity and low temperature on the Oak, and based upon the findings the design was crucially adjusted prior to installation during the summer of 2008. With the help of Coed Cymru, Hapgoods were able to secure a source of Welsh Oak for the project, which was prepared, fire treated, sanded & wrapped at the Kinmel Bay workshop for transport up the mountain. During installation the weather was so poor Hapgoods operatives, who travelled up the mountain daily, reported that clouds were coming in through the doors, however despite this, and subsequently the coldest winter in 30 years the Oak has remained stable vindicating the meticulous planning, preparation and workmanship provided by Hapgoods team.
